The idea
Most communication assumes cell towers and internet infrastructure are just there. I wanted to understand what’s actually possible without them — long-range, low-power, decentralized messaging over LoRa.
What it does
Hardware for Meshtastic nodes has been acquired — RAK4631 modules on RAK19007 WisBlock carrier boards, with GNSS/GPS modules, OLED displays, external antennas, and battery power under consideration for portable and fixed nodes.
Progress and outcomes
This is early-stage hardware experimentation, not a deployed mesh network. No claim of a working, fielded mesh should be inferred from the hardware on hand.
What comes next
Building out and testing individual nodes, then exploring portable versus fixed placement and eventual integration with the homelab.
